FAQs

  • What is psychology-based coaching?

Psychology-based coaching blends the goal-focused approach of coaching with the depth of psychological principles. It’s about using research-backed tools and concepts from psychology to help you understand your thoughts, behaviours, and patterns - and then applying that insight to create meaningful, lasting change in your personal and professional life.

It is not therapy and does not replace mental health care.

  • What do you mean by “psychological insights”?

In my coaching, “psychological insights” refers to the use of evidence-based concepts from psychology - like cognitive patterns, behavioural habits, and emotional awareness - applied in a non-clinical way to help clients better understand themselves and make intentional changes. It does not imply therapy, diagnosis, or clinical treatment.

  • Are you a registered psychologist or counsellor?

No. I am not a registered psychologist or counsellor, and I do not offer therapy or clinical mental health services. I hold a Bachelor of Applied Social Science degree and a BPsych Equivalent Honours degree in psychology, as well as a Diploma in Counselling & Communication. I previously held temporary HPCSA registration as a Student Registered Counsellor while completing my BPsych Equivalent practicum, but I am no longer practicing in that capacity. My coaching work is grounded in this academic training but is delivered strictly within a non-clinical, coaching scope.

  • What’s the difference between coaching and therapy?

Therapy is a regulated mental health service that focuses on diagnosing, treating, and working through mental health conditions or significant emotional distress. Coaching is forward-focused, non-clinical, and designed to help you work toward personal or professional goals, build skills, and develop self-awareness.

If, during our work, we identify that you may benefit from therapy, I will refer you to a licensed mental health professional.

  • Do you diagnose or treat mental health conditions?

No. I do not diagnose, treat, or provide medical advice. If you need support for a mental health condition, I can help connect you to qualified professionals in your area.

  • Can psychologists or therapists refer clients to you?

Yes - and some do. I work well as an adjunct to therapy for clients who are stable, not in crisis, and want a practical, forward-focused approach to complement their mental health work. My role is to support personal growth and skill-building, not replace therapy.

  • Can you work with clients internationally?

Yes. Coaching services are offered internationally and remain within the ethical scope of non-clinical personal development and wellness coaching. Coaching is not a regulated profession in most jurisdictions. Clients are responsible for ensuring suitability of coaching services in their own country.

  • What kind of challenges do you work with?

I work with a wide range of personal and emotional challenges, always within the scope of coaching. Common examples include building confidence, setting healthy boundaries, managing stress, improving communication, navigating life transitions, overcoming self-doubt, and creating healthier habits. Many clients come to me with a mix of goals and we work together to create a plan that’s tailored to their unique needs.

  • Will I walk away with both tools and self-awareness?

Absolutely. My sessions are not just about talking through challenges. They’re about uncovering the “why” behind your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. I combine practical, actionable tools with non-clinical psychoeducation so you leave each session equipped to make immediate changes and with the insight to create lasting ones.
